Welcome to the Exmouth Masterplan website

Exmouth Masterplan is an exciting and important project for the town that is specifically intended to bring forward significant improvements in the town centre and seafront. The District Council and Devon County Council have commissioned local company, LDA Design, to draw together a vision for Exmouth to directly inform the town centre and seafront-focused masterplan and the preparation of comprehensive proposals and a delivery plan to bring about investment in two key sites: the Royal Avenue/estuary side area and the London Inn area.

Exmouth’s future has been discussed at length over many years and proposals have come and gone. It is important that this piece of work is not seen as ‘yet another plan’. Instead it is drawing on previous consultations and the views currently expressed by the local community to form a consensus about how best to attract investment to deliver a more viable future for the town. It is targeted at making things happen. The project is described in more detail in ‘Exmouth Masterplan.’

The purpose of this website is to keep you informed as the Masterplan for Exmouth town centre and seafront progresses, and to give you the opportunity to tell us what you think – your thoughts, ideas and aspirations.

This website will evolve and be updated as the project moves forward over the coming weeks so please do keep visiting us and giving us your views.

HAVE YOUR SAY ON THE DRAFT EXMOUTH TOWN CENTRE AND SEAFRONT MASTERPLAN – TIME’S RUNNING OUT!

what do you want

If you’re visiting this website for the first time, welcome! You may be here because you’ve seen a banner on the fence in Marine Way, posing the simple question “What do YOU want?”.

Or you may have seen posters at key sites around the town and on the seafront asking “What could go here?”. We don’t expect you to come up with fresh ideas for these sites. But we do need you to comment on the suggestions put forward by consultants who have conducted a detailed study of the town.

East Devon District Council is keen to hear from everyone who lives in Exmouth to find out what they think of the ideas put forward by LDA Design in the Draft Exmouth Masterplan.

The Council started a 12-week consultation exercise on 27 June and so far only 200 people have completed the questionnaires that are designed to check whether people like or dislike the proposals. The deadline for responses is 12 September – so time’s running out!

If we are to get planning policy right in Exmouth, we really do need to hear from as many people as possible. The comments of just a few people may not represent the majority view. And if a large section of the population are either unaware of the proposals or don’t like them, there are going to be a lot of disappointed folks in Exmouth over the coming years, when developments start going ahead that they have not seen or commented on.

So please have a look at the ideas on this website and fill in the online questionnaire.

Alternatively, have a look at the exhibition in the window of the former Thomas Tucker store and then go across to the Town Hall to fill in a paper questionnaire.

If you want to speak to someone, why not come along on 3 September, when EDDC representatives and LDA Design staff will be on hand to talk to you in the Magnolia Centre from 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.

Don’t leave it to a small minority to decide how Exmouth develops.

It’s YOUR town, so please ensure YOU have a say in its future!
